Be the most popular website in you're industry...
This article was written by Rob Jones
So, you've got your shiny new website, now what? The bad news is that the work doesn't end there! But the good news is by following our guide you’ll be bringing in new business, hurray!
It’s
important to get your website out there, the last thing you want is to
make your website an island with no maps or sign posts for your
potential new customers to follow. So by creating new content and
providing back links will ensure that you’re not the Robinson Crusoe of
the internet.
But
before we start, you’ll need a plan and one that you will stick to. Set
aside an hour minimum a week to do the following no matter what, this
will give you a good amount of time to keep your website fresh.
So , let’s begin, the first aspect you need to concentrate on your website content.
MyWebEdge
websites come with a content management system (CMS) so your website
content is under your control. Should you have gone with another web
design company (tut, tut!) then chances are you won't have a CMS with
it. This can prove a very costly and time consuming way to update your
website as your web designer will be rubbing their hands in
anticipation of you saying the words "I'd like to update my website
please?"
With
MyWebEdge, simply log into your CMS and get editing and creating new
content, it's as simple as that! Any news from your industry, new
services, new testimonials, new upcoming events, the list is endless.
The main point is to create something new, customers and search engines
both crave new content so log in and get editing!
The second aspect is back links.
Get
out there and get links to your website, i.e. a back link! This will
show just how popular you are. Google and other search engines are
fickle creatures and they love you if you’re popular! And popularity
means website visitors!
There
are many ways to do this, if you work closely with another business
then why not get a link on their website to yours. Are you a regular in
a forum? Make sure you put a link into your signature. The point is to
get out and there and get back links.
The third aspect is social networking.
Before
you groan at the thought, it can actually be more fun than you
imagined! Social networks allow you to be a bit more fun and laid back
about your business whilst giving subtle reminders of your brand.
Facebook
and Twitter are two of the more popular social networks and provide an
easy way to spread the word. Should one of your employees stroll into
the office with a dodgy new haircut then why not put a picture up of
it! The point is, you’re keeping active and keeping your brand and name
out there (whilst promoting dodgy haircuts!).
Social
networks also provide an easy way to create back links (remember
those?), so you’ve got your new offer on, why not tweet it or put it on
Facebook (read more about social networks on our previous blog post - http://blog.mywebedge.com/2009/05/busy-life-of-social-networker.html). Of course your tweet should include a link to your webpage. Tada! One back link created, it’s that easy!
So, by following our guide you’ll be the envy of everyone else and be the most popular website in your industry!

Why not have your say and leave us a comment, we'd love to know what you think.
