Is the price of your website costing you? - Part 2

Is the price of your website costing you? - Part 2

This article was written by Matt Roach

If we look at the pricing of websites then firstly we have to consider what a website is. A website can range from a single webpage to a massive database controlled interactive portal. The prices of these websites could range from a couple of beers (to a bloke down the pub who’s good with computers) to millions of pounds.

There are many pricing structures for websites but they are usually split into two parts firstly the design and development of the site and secondly ongoing costs.

Website design costs all come from the time spent getting the exact functions and 'look' you want. These hours of development can cost you between next to nothing and millions because one website maybe being generated automatically with little human input whilst the other may have a whole design team working on it for weeks.

Ongoing costs include things like the continued registration of your website address, hosting of your website and license fees for specialist software e.g. CMS (editing your own site), E-commerce (online shopping), email campaigns (marketing) etc. So once again it is possible to choose low monthly costs but at the cost of speed, reliability and functionality.

So when comparing website prices remember to compare like with like. There are so many options out there that if you simply base your buying decision on purchase price you may be buying what you think can afford in the short term but won't be buying what you need or what will support your business in the long term.

So before you consider the cost of a website please consider the purchase price against your business goals and objectives and what the website will achieve for you.
